Of Photography and Things to Make You Squeamish

My sister and I keep hermit crabs as pets, so it offers allot of photo opportunities. But for my more 'squeamish' readers, I am showing pictures of a hermit crab without a shell on... it's really cool but kind of gross. Just giving you a heads-up.

This is our crab Goober
This is Benedick, who for some unknown reason, ran around with no shell on for two days and then died... I am posting this in loving memory of him. ( yes, I am a freak... :))

Here is a nice picture to make up for the rest of the post.

I am finished doing the face on my pop art picture, and am finished shading my skeleton. I will post them as soon as they are done!

Of New Poetry

So, this isn't art exactly, but it is creative. Not only am I an amateur artist, I am also an amateur poet. Or at least I want to be. I wrote this poem for poetry class and think it is blog-worthy.

She Goes Away

I see her face before she goes away
She looks at me but I look at the floor
I always knew she wasn't here to stay

I see her face before she shuts the door
Her dark eyes say she doesn't care for me
I know she doesn't love me anymore

I wasn't what she wanted me to be
I was just myself but it wasn't right
But I cannot be one who isn't me

So I'll keep moving, moving towards the light
My friends will leave but God is here to stay
So I'll keep running, running towards the light

My friends will leave but God is here to stay
And he will help me overcome today

Of Works Half-finished, Flowers and Pandas

I am half way done with my pop art!! i am still drawing all the dots on her skin, and I am going to do dots on the speech bubble too. I have been commended ( or deemed crazy) for having enough patience to sit and draw a gabazillion dots in colored pencil

Here she is so far!

I decided to try something normal for a change. I don't really like it, probably because it lacks the strange aspects that I enjoy most in my art. It's kind of boring. Pretty, but boring. But it was beneficial for my pastel and perspective skills.

And here is my lovely head for my skeleton I am working on. I think he's cute.

This is how I spent four hours yesterday after church. He is almost done! But I need advice for the background. Ideas anyone?

I forgot to blog about this painting. I did it for my sister, since she loves pandas. I especially like the shoes.

Of Pop Art and Random Quotations

I decided to endeavour to draw a pop art person. We have a giant one in our foyer and I used her for inspiration. Sorry, the pictures kind of bad.
Her quotation is: ' I know how you must feel, Brad...' We have added a hilarious continuation of that on a post-it note... She says, "But I need a girls weekend without you and the six kids..." and Brad's reply: "Deal with it babe, you married me, I need to go watch the game."

That's what I love about pop art. You never know what they're talking about, so you are left with a thousand questions! I also saw a pop art once where the girl is drowning, and she says something along the lines of "Oh, whatever! I would rather drown than ask Brad for help!"
I sketched our pop art to see the general design. Mine looks a bit more perplexed...

Then I drew my own. This is a beginning sketch.
I don't know what she's going to say. I'm probably going with "If only I could actually believe you..."

If anyone who is reading this has seen the show 'Bones', doesn't she look so much like Angela?
I will show you the finished piece in like 5 weeks when i actually finish drawing all those thousands of dots...

But the question still stands: Who on earth is Brad??

Of Green-faced Girls

I was playing with my oil pastels again, and drew this face. I love using random colors for things. Her hair is actually allot more dark blue, but the camera messed it up.

Of mothers day cards, monkeys and hairstyles

I couldn't think of a card design that I liked (okay, maybe I was too lazy to look for blank cards) so I did a oil pastel for my mother on watercolor paper instead.

I guess I like to do this kind of stuff rather than cards.

And once you get out the oil pastels it's hard to stop! I did a monkey as well. I modeled it after a sock monkey I have. Reminds me of Paul Gauguin's paintings because of the color contrast. If you don't know who that is, look him up!

This isn't really my art, it's my friend's. She did  my hair for a dance I went to, but it is like art... you take damp hair and twist it from the front then bobby pin it into random swirls. My hair stood 3 inches off my head when I took it out!

Of new paintings, skeletons, books and butterflies

I did this painting yesterday when I was bored. It was free hand without any prior planing, just me tinkering with the brush and some blue and white paint. The flash of the camera did nothing to it, its really whitish in the middle.

I did this by first painting a solid background of blue fading to white in the middle, and then dragged a dry brush up and then down in stripes to mix it. Then I took another brush and put a face on top.

Close up to her face

This is what I am currently working on now. Its a skeleton (but you probably already knew that). I need to fix the skull, because it freaks me out...

I had to blog about the amazing book I found at a used book sale... it is gorgeous.

Along with my love for art is a love for encyclopedias... don't ask me why, I just love them.

When our butterfly hatched, it was a photo opportunity to amazing to miss. The butterfly apparently loved my sisters wet hair. I consider photos art too...

Finished Mutant Squid

So I finally finished my squid and I am really proud of it! It took me a long time.
Here he is!

Closer...
